Abstract from the Medical Officer of Heaton Journal

On the 27th inst Mrs Butterworth of Stanton Rd North told her next door neighbour told me, that her neighbour has scarlet fever in his house (Mrs Anderson) and that the linen had to been sent to he washed as usual and the Laundress Mrs Myerscough in Derby Range.

On the 29 Monday I sent for Mrs Myerscough before 8pm about 8.30pm her husband came to see one but I had gone out. I therefore wrote a letter directing his attention with matters requesting an interview, a letter was sent to Mrs Myerscough on Friday morning early March 30th she came to see me a few minutes later after receiving the letter she had received dirty clothes from the Andersons on Monday March 22nd and that the Andersons did not know until the Match 24th that the illness was scarlet fever, she returned these clothes on Monday 27th

In consequence of my letter, she went to the Andersons   to tell them that she could not take anymore clothes from them at present. Mrs Butterworth tells me that Mrs Anderson widow told Mr Butterworth on March 22nd that the illness was scarlet fever this case supports claims for compulsory notification.

I inspected some alterations in the water closet assay? And found them satisfactory, there were 2 disused drains in the cellar, which I ordered to be ?? and in doing so Haynes? Found a very unhealthy condition of things
