Kirby 1841
Welcome
Welcome to the new Myerscough Project website. We hope you like
the new look.
The redesign was necessary to make updating easier - hopefully we
will be able to add content quicker and more often.

The inspiration for this web site was the work of Agnes Myerscough of
Longton, who spent twenty years researching and documenting the Myerscough
'clan'.
It is our hope that this site will enable the work of Agnes to be
available to the Myerscough community and to add to it by the
contributions of other Myerscough Family Historians
We have designed this website as the
focus of our Myerscough Project. We have taken Agnes's database as the basis and
built an index so that researchers can identify whether or not we may have
more information about their ancestor within the database. We have then
continued and extended Agnes's work by researching, identifying and making
available Myerscough data, sources and references on the website.

We are Sheila Gibbons and Steve Williams.
Although Sheila's name is Sheila Gibbons, in Family History she uses her maiden name, so you
will find her as Sheila McDermott!!, Steve is simpler, once a Williams
always a Williams!!
Sheila's connection to the Myerscough family is through her Great Grandmother Mary Ann
Myerscough.
Whilst researching Sheila's Myerscough line we were privileged to meet Agnes
Myerscough of Longton who has spent twenty years researching the Myerscough families and has
documented over 6000 Myerscough's and their associated families.
At the beginning of 2007 Agnes asked us to become custodian of her data on the understanding
that it is made available to Family Historians researching their own Myerscough
ancestors.
To continue her work, we have designed this website as the
focus of our Myerscough Project. We have taken Agnes's database as the
basis and built an index so that researchers can identify whether or not we may
have more information about their ancestor within the database. We have then
continued and extended Agnes's work by researching, identifying and making
available Myerscough data, sources and references on the website.
The aims of the Myerscough Project are to provide:
1.)
A homebase for the Myerscough Project -
2) A repository for the index to the
Myerscough's database
3.) A
central location for Myerscough related
source documentation -
4.) A way of sharing information.
This
is a contribution style website. In other words, the success of the website
depends on contributions from other Myerscough researchers, both in the form of
participation in the project with source documentation and family line
information.
We
truly hope that this site helps fellow Myerscough genealogists everywhere. This is
our
way of
thanking all of those who have helped us along in our Family History research
And, of course, we are always open to ideas, suggestions and comments. Please feel free
to let us know your thoughts.
Enjoy
the site!!

The
Name Myerscough is derived from the Danish
language and means boggy wood from myer-bog or
muddy ground and scough –wood, probably only
in wet Lancashire do trees grow in such wet
conditions.
We
believe that the surname Myerscough
originates from only one place in England, the Hamlet of Myerscough near
Preston Lancashire
